Abstract
This summary of your project is the most important element of your proposal. Write it last!
It should be succinct, logical, and accurate and be able to stand alone.
The first sentence should encapsulate your project in the most concise way possible.
Use a professional tone. Avoid using the first person or sounding like a commercial.
Write for an educated lay person. Avoid jargon. Will your Congressperson or Senator be able to understand it?
Make sure you include:
- Broad, long-term objectives
- Specific aims
- Research design and methods
The National Science Foundation requires a one-page summary that details the following:
- Intellectual merit
- Broader impacts
Foundation, Corporate & Government Relations staff will read and critique this vital component of your proposal in advance of submission.
