Budget
Early in the process, meet with the Office of Foundation, Corporate and Government Relations (FCGR). We can advise on all budget categories, including fringe benefits, indirect cost rates, summer salary rates, etc.
Make sure your budget is realistic. Get discounted prices from vendors. Reviewers generally will know the prices of equipment, supplies, travel, etc. Unrealistic prices will put them off.
If cost sharing is required, it is very important that matching funds must be cleared in advance with your Dean. Even if not required, institutional matching is an indicator of university support and buy-in.
Involve the UR Procurement Department for prices on furniture, computers, special electrical wiring or plumbing.
The University of Richmond's federally negotiated indirect cost rate is 53% of salaries, wages and fringe benefits. In some cases a percentage of the total direct costs may be used. Check with FCGR.
The University's fringe benefit rate is 28% during the academic year for full time employees; 8.5% for students, faculty/summers, and part-time employees.
