Suggestions for Students Seeking Grants

The Office of Foundation, Corporate & Government Relations only works with University of Richmond faculty and administrators.  Students seeking grants for university activities should discuss their needs with the Vice President for Student Development, or may want to investigate the following sources.

If you are looking for student scholarships for undergraduate or graduate school, please contact your guidance counselor, your faculty advisor, the Financial Aid Office on your campus, or search on the Internet for "Scholarships."

The University of Richmond School of Arts and Sciences provides student funding through its Undergraduate Research Program.

The University of Richmond Common Ground Small Grants Program encourages activities that promote inclusive community on campus and that otherwise might not occur without funding assistance. Applicants are asked to specifically connect the goals of the Common Ground Action Plan to their project in the application process. All members of the campus community are invited to apply for a grant. Past projects have included theatre productions, student-run cultural events, curricular enhancements, and student research projects.

Students on campus may also search for funding opportunities via two services to which we subscribe. You must access from a UR campus computer:

Federal government funding information: Grants.gov is the federal government site for finding grant opportunities and applying for grants.

The Foundation Center is one of the best sources for information about private foundations.

Many resources on grants and proposal writing are held by the main branch of the Richmond Public Library at 2nd and Franklin Streets, which is a satellite location for The Foundation Center. You may look for such publications as The Foundation Directory published by the Foundation Center; Oryx Publications' Directory of Research Grants; the Directory of Corporate and Foundation Givers published by Taft; and other publications related to grants. This library also has on microfilm the PF990 tax returns of private foundations in Virginia.
